The victims of the 1915 genocide are being canonized here as martyrs in a ceremony led by Karekin II, the Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, and Aram I, Catholicos of the Holy See of Cilicia. This is the first time that the Armenian Apopostolic Church has elevated anyone to the rank of sainthood since the 17th century.

Mr. Recep Marashli, scholar from Germany, came to Yerevan to participate in a conference dedicated to the Armenian Genocide. According to Mr. Marashli, his ancestors "participated in the massacre of the Armenians". “I feel tremendous pain and sorrow as a result. I have difficulty expressing my feelings and I have to live with this through the rest of my life”, says Recep Meshli.
